Sustainability

Through our actions, we stress the importance of sustainability by continuously searching for production techniques using natural resources more responsibly and sustainably. As part of a global community that envisions a better world, our primary concern is to help solve the increasing global problem of food and nutrition security.

We care about the future scarcity of food. By 2050, the world population will reach almost ten billion people, putting a stress on food demand and compromising food production.

Fertilizers play a key role in agriculture because they improve the quality of soil and food and allow for cultivation of land that is unavailable for planting. We believe we have a responsibility to this cause and therefore, are working on offering products of high agronomic efficiency that are profitable for the producer and result in food of higher quality.

Our products are rich in minerals and trace elements which improve the soil’s quality, plant’s health and help to increase the production of more nutrient-dense food. They are sustainable by its very nature.

Verde’s products do not contain chloride in its composition, an element that can be very harmful to the environment.

The most commonly used fertilizer for the supply of potash is Potassium Chloride (KCl), which is composed of approximately 50% of potash and 50% of Chloride.

Chloride kills beneficial soil microorganisms. Applying 1 pound of Potassium Chloride (KCl) to the soil is equivalent to applying 1 gallon of Clorox in killing microorganisms in soil (Hermary, 2007).

The burning of biomass cultivated with KCl produces gases that cause atmospheric pollution, destruction of the ozone layer and worsening of the greenhouse effect. The combustion creates dioxins and furans. Dioxins and furans are some of the most toxic chemicals known to Science and were confirmed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as carcinogenic substances.

As part of our commitment to a greener Planet, we own over 21 million ft² of pristine tropical rainforest, in Minas Gerais, Brazil, that will be protected and completely help offset CO2 emissions incurred in the distribution of Super Greensand®.

In our tropical forest sanctuary, there are thousands of trees and hundreds of different animal species, including several endangered.
